For seventeen years Violeta and I lived in town or in Guadalajara and had nothing to do with gated communities. We regarded these as custodial institutions for people who didn’t want to be in Mexico but liked the weather and cheap gardeners. For strange reasons irrelevant here, a year or so ago we moved to Puerta Arroyo, a gated community. Nice Houses and nice people, both Mexican and expat, if not the life and flavor of town.

One day as we stepped outside to drive to the Mini-Super down the road, we saw a terrifying apparition stalking toward us with death in her eye. It was, at least approximately, a woman. Oh God, I thought, I’ve been here before. A pissed off gringa with her innards in an uproar over something tedious. I knew the kind. They are a plague in Mexico.

Sure enough, an old woman of maybe seventy, ugly as the north end of a southbound dog, with hair dyed prom-queen blond and enough makeup to seal a driveway. She seemed to be in disguise. Maybe she was getting ready for Halloween. Or maybe a case of slow-onset dementia.

Anyway, this ruin bore down on us and began lecturing us about our garbage can that, like those of three others in sight at the moment, was waiting for the garbage truck. It was, she said, unsightly. As unsightly went, I thought, she could have frightened the tires off a garbage truck, but never mind.

Violeta is the soul of patience, until she isn’t, when it is better to be on another continent. The old bat didn’t bring her to the point of nuclear ignition, and eventually went away, presumably to hang by her toes in some dank cave.

Why didn’t her husband control her, I wondered? After all, we keep dogs on leashes.

We might have regarded her as a mere psychiatric curiosity, except that she was par for a certain type of gringas who have nothing to do and so spend their time being disagreeable. At Puerta Arroyo we seem to be regarded as fresh meat as we have attracted at least four of these horrors.

For example, we have three well behaved dogs that Vi walks in the mornings. They cause no trouble and we pick up after them. The feral biddies bitch about them to Violeta. One actually suggested that we have the pooches killed. They do this when I am not around which is why I am not in a Mexican death row.

They are like half-arachnids: glue a pair together and you would have a whole spider. Why are they this way? I am not sure. Perhaps they were raised in bus stations, or their mother drank contaminated water.

Herewith some jackleg sociology based on observation: For a certain class of women, temperament is proportional to the likelihood that a man might look at them on purpose. Young pretty women are pleasant unless provoked. The Gringa Patrol, attractive as head colds, are like menopausing chihuahuas, yip yip snap, grr, snap.

Other examples quickly followed. I began to wonder whether God was punishing me for some forgotten sin.

In fairness, most American women do not behave this way, or even close. But, at least in Mexico, most women who behave this way are American.

When I first arrived in Ajijic long ago I lived in Italo’s, a residential hotel just off the plaza. Mexicans like fiestas. Often they bring in carnival paraphernalia–merry go rounds, Ferris wheels, that sort of thing–to assist in fiesting. There is nowhere to put all of them. Nor is there space for the many stalls selling the tequila and tortillas and toys proper to a fiesta. These towns are often very old, laid out centuries before Henry Ford’s grandmother had her first date. So the locals block off streets and put things wherever they fit. It’s fun. The children love it.

      But not the gringas.

During one such fiesta, hearing much blowing of a car horn, I walked up a side street to investigate and found a car containing an enraged gringa, maybe seventy. She was almost hissing. She had started down the street without looking and found herself trapped between stalls with another in front. She couldn’t drive well enough to reverse out and was yelling about people so stupid they put stalls in the street, didn’t they know this and that.

To which the correct response is “It’s how they do things. It’s their country. If you don’t like it, go somewhere else.”

Anyway, this dyspeptic crone damned near knocked a stall down before I babied her out, now turn the wheel the other way…now straighten out….

Hers was not a pretty display in a country not her own to which she had not been invited. American women often think they are entitled to live in Mexico as they think it should be, not as it is. Men shrug it off and do not make asses of themselves in public.

One afternoon I was in line at the dog food store. A young girl of maybe seventeen was working the register. She wore a lime-green shirt with a company logo consisting mostly of initials.

In line was an cadaverous gringa. She looked as if she had been dried, kept in a box, and occasionally let out to terrorize the neighborhood. She asked the girl what the logo meant. The girl said she didn’t know. Whereupon the gringa began braying–this from memory, but it’s close–”Can you believe it? She’s wearing a shirt and she doesn’t even know what it means.” Etc.

Presumably the girl saw the shirt somewhere, liked the color, and bought it. I didn’t know what it meant either.

It was characteristic of the Entitled Gringa. They are embarrassing, and should be fed to eels. Expat men don’t treat Mexicans or anyone else with arrogance and vulgarity. Nor do Mexican women behave so badly. Amng expat women, it is a clear sex difference.

      ORDER IT NOW

Why do men not behave this way? Partly from self-preservation. A man knows that if he insults the señorita at the cash register, a Mexican guy may well smack the living dog-snot out of him. For men there are consequences. For women there are not. The gringa knows that no one will deck her.

There are other reasons. Women are far more class conscious than men. A man will usually judge himself and others by accomplishments–starting a company, commanding a division, being a lead engineer at Boeing. Increasingly, women do this too. I see many young Mexicanas going to university to be doctors, lawyers, dentists But the gringas of Lakefront are usually in their sixties or seventies. They haven’t really done anything. Their status depends on their husbands’ money and the size of their houses.

When they arrive in Mexico, they discover that they have more house and money than most Mexicans. They can now be princesses.

They exhibit condescension thick enough to lube a diesel. You can almost hear the thought bubbling up from deep in the brain stem, “Why do these—these—brown people think they can do as they please in their own towns? It wasn’t like that in Amherst.”

They are purse proud. Long ago when Violeta was just out of university and trying to make a living teaching Spanish to expats, the lesson subject was cars, their parts and upkeep. The student, a gringa, knew that Vi, just graduated, was nearly penniless and didn’t have a car. She managed to find a pretext to announce that she would never be seen in a mere Honda, that she had to have a BMW. Which, of course, her husband would buy for her.

This is sheer female status signaling. A man would never get into a cab and assure the driver that he, the customer, had a much nicer car than the driver.

There are other reasons for the gringa’s hostility–which is what it is– to Mexican women. Expat women here are in a bit of a trap. Sally Sue comes to Mexico with her husband, who promptly dies. Sally Sue doesn’t want to live alone, so she has to compete for one of the very few single men who are not hopeless drunks or confirmed bachelors. The hunting is poor. Such eligible, or bearable, men as exist will invariably and wisely go for Mexicanas. These are younger, prettier, more fun and much more feminine (consult your dictionary). Gringas intensely resent this. They become sour and disagreeable, if they weren’t already.

Some become lagartonas, literally “big lizards” as Mexicans call them. These are women in their sixties or better who wear tight short-shorts, dye their hair and use makeup as if applying peanut butter to a sandwich. It is as saddening as absurd, but there you have it.

Now, racism. Racially, Mexicans run from pure white to pure brown. There is not so much a color line as a color blur. Usually it has no great importance. But there is a certain kind of Mexicana, who is white, or close enough to pass. She comes from money, or some money, may have a European husband as a style accessory who provides money and status She may have gone to university somewhere, and regards herself as high on the status ladder. She looks down on her darker countrymen.

The problem is that she will always be a Third World curiosity in the eyes of the world’s Uppah Clawsses, not so much a trained seal as like the Congolese ambassador’s daughter. If she were in the United States and a good engineer, she would be judged as an engineer. In the world of social status not based on accomplishment, there is an unstated ceiling.

Those are today’s profound insights, and will doubtless transform our understanding of human nature. Meanwhile I came home the other day and learned that while Vi was unloading groceries from the CRV, yet another of these bottle-blond garden slugs had driven up and bitched that our dogs had been barking. Actually the pooches in question were the neighbors, but never mind. I went out front and looked for pools of blood, bone fragments, and widely separated eyeballs. Nothing. Violeta’s patience had held again.

      Other Stuff

Hailstorm–not snow–yesterday in Guadalajara. Two meters of it. Where this it fell on sloping roads, the bottom melted a bit and huge ice packs slide downward. Meanwhile lead melts in Rance. Violeta, with fifty years experience oof the city, remembers a couple of inches in ‘97 and nothing else. Climate change is a myth, though. It only looks like it is changing because it keeps getting differenter.

      1. Ok, Fred. The US will take back the white Gringas. Mexico will take back all the squat, stubby invaders that have entered the US in the past 30 years. Sound good? You get rid or the whites who say mean things about your dogs. We get rid of the hordes of 3rd worlders who destroy our standard of living and turn our nation into Mexico North.

      3. Dear Fred,

You’re out of touch. 95% of American women are like this now, including the young ones. Please send us more agreeable 22 year old Mexicanas who don’t have tattoos, 17 prior sexual partners, and all the charm of a staph infection.

And who want to have families before they’re so old they have to freeze their eggs.

And I mean really have them, not abort them in the third trimester.

        Thanks!

        Ohhh Kay.
First, I am a “gringa” in that I am a “white” [that is Caucasian] woman.
I am not American. Neither, actually, am I an Anglo, being a Celt, born in Cymru.

I live in Ecuador. While here, I have met a few – very few – Americans. Mostly, they keep to themselves in little enclaves. There might be between 3 – 6 couples. They form a nucleus. They have little to nothing to do with anyone else – Ecuadorians or myself.
I have tried to do volunteer work. However, the local Americans regard this as their private territory. IN fact, I have, on the phone, after my email offer of assistance had been gladly accepted, had said to me “where you from? Your accent … you dont sound American”. “No”, I said “I’m British, from Wales”. To be told, snappily, that no help was wanted, thanks.
I met one other Briton, a Londoner, who told me, from his work among a few charities, that most seemed to be set up either to achieve some legal status, or as a means of being supercilious to the local poor. Could be right.
The American men, if they speak to me, are atrocious. I’ve had one scream orders at me and that I should do it “Now, and I said Now”. I’ve had another, a landlord, scream at me, in front of other people, that I was take a shovel and clean up the dog poop of stray dogs around the place. I find myself understanding where the “screaming train wreck feminists” of which Fred complains so frequently might have come from. I thought, if I had spent some years being screamed at, had “do it now, and I said now” barked at me, I too might have ended up like his “reptilian old woman”.

By the way Fred, how old are you?? Do you describe yourself as an Old Man. ?? I doubt it.

You remind me of joke I read once : “Women will never be the equal of men until they can walk down the street with a beer belly hanging over their pants, in need of a shave, bald, and still think they’re sexy”. Unlike you, since I doubt you can see this, I frequently see “old” American men, grey haired, lined faces, chasing young Ecuadorean women, often barely out of their teens. I find it embarrassing and faintly repellent. What on earth do they have between the ears, to need to want to bed someone virtually a child to them. What’s between the ears seems to count for nothing. Thankfully, they are no interest to me at all.
Well, I’m about the age you mention. I dont see myself as “old” and certainly am never taken as being so by others.
I am NOT “old”. I am a middle aged gringa, polite, quiet, who minds her own business, and has been known to give a helping hand to anyone who wants it.

Please, stop with the broad brush. I suspect you are getting your knickers in a twist over a very few, ignorant, low IQ, uneducated louts, who aren’t worth anyones time to even consider.

      7. Isabella says:
        @Chris Mallory

Well, you see, before you “Americans” invaded Mexico, and annexed it [you know, as you keep accusing Russia of doing after a referendum in which 95% of the Crimean population voted to rejoin Russia, and Russia accepted] it in fact WAS “Mexico North”. I suspect a lot of Mexicans still see it this way. IN fact, maybe they are bent on returning their land to their nation, as it was a mere 170 odd years ago, and had been for untold millenia !!!

      8. Witty article. Fred’s reference to “very purse proud” remind me, of being a student, driving a cab in the holidays , (in a country where tipping, outside of taxis & restaurants was uncommon) that women were very–very poor tippers. Men tipped maybe a third of the time. Women tipped every blue-moon.

      9. Thank you Fred. Women do not learn that words have consequences. They have never been smacked in the face in the school yard for saying the wrong thing. Consequently, they do not “know limits”.

This reminds me of a former GF. She grew up on Long Island. Neighbors would knock on their door to tell them that their car was too old and an embarassment, as was the condition of their lawn.

That’s one of the sides to it.
Add the male willingness to act as combat robots for them (meaning, if women ignite a fight, legal or physical or verbal, the males associated to them will be all too happy to step in and go at “enemies” drone-like), and the fact that each sex has developed more those features that the opposite sex has selected them for over time — and we never see men develop interest in a woman, or rate women desirability, according to rationality, objectivity, self-awareness, or do we?!

      12. Fredrico Reedissimo, hypocrisy is thy name! Hahahaaa! “Get these gringa b witches OUT OF MY COUNTRY!”

Fred, it can’t be done. There are not enough buses! (Especially if we do it all on one day.) You should just get used to the ladies bitching about your trash and your pooches. You must be against assimilation if you think these “ladies” are not fitting in down there. You are a nothing but a Xenophobe, a raciss, and a knuckle-breathing VDare writer!

[Shall I go on? Yeah, what the hell …]

These people are decent, and nothing like the blacks that, well, maybe will come next. You need to quit bitching about building fences or keeping these people out of your gated community and learn to love them. Besides fences are too expensive and beyond your budget. They don’t work. The witches can fly over them. I know I’ll get some nasty comments from some of my ignorant, bodily-fluids-spurting Mexican repliers, so you people keep replying to get the comment count up and keep those US dollars flowing in to mi casa.

BTW, are you telling me that your next-door neighbors are dogs? How can they afford a gated community? They’d have to exist on dog food or something (you are missing an apostrophe – usually your grammar is impeccable, Fred.)

Yes, we took it and it is ours, just like it has worked for all of recorded history. But unlike most nations who conquer, we paid Mexico for the land we took. We didn’t have to do that. Probably would have been better to exterminate them all back in the 1840’s.

You could try to take my house. But first you have to get past my dogs, then you face my guns. Good luck.

Yes, I know the Mexicants are trying to retake the land. That is why they should be rounded up and deported and the military should be guarding our borders instead of protecting South Korea, Poland and Israel. The Mexicants still do not have overwhelming numbers. They could still be removed fairly easily.

      23. Isabella, puta, you must understand that throughout history, different tribes have conquered other tribes. Olmecs, Toltecs, Aztecs, etc. When Native American tribes conquered other tribes, they usually tortured the defeated men to death, and took the better looking of the conquered women as their own. I suppose you were fine with that. But when Europeans conquered Native Americans, that is when the whining began.

I just don’t understand why Latinos want to abandon countries run by other Latinos. They should be paradise on earth. They move to First World countries and then try to transform their new countries into the mierda hole countries from whence they slithered.

Mexico’s still getting the much better end of the deal the a rude 70yr old gringa didn’t have seven gringo children, most of whom become public charges themselves, and arrogantly expect the Mexican government to pay for it.

Fred accuses any white person who doesn’t want to be swamped by mestizos of being a white nationalist in the pejorative sense, so I guess his criticism of old white women in Mexico makes him a brown nationalist. You need to get your facts straight. The white settlers were INVITED in by the Mexican government. There was no invasion. And the white settlers didn’t collect welfare, EBT and free medical care. They pushed back the frontiers of the ruthless and bloodthirsty Comanche nation just as Mexico hoped they would do.

If I invaded your house and claimed it was mine, plus everything in it, you’d be OK with that??

Based on historical facts it’s more like you were invited in to someone’s house to do all the cooking, cleaning and repairs in exchange for low rent or no rent. Then the owner reneges on the deal but you refuse to leave since you’re holding up your end of the bargain. A dispute breaks out and you beat up the owner up in a fist fight and throw her out. Then in good faith you pay the owner full market value for the house you just took possession of.

        Hey gringa,

As an old man gringo who lives in Mexico, I can empathize with your experiences with Americanos. Just like in Ecuador they seem to cluster in enclaves and are very cliquish.

What I can’t empathize with is your male bashing.

Honey, old men still want to have sex, as much of it as they can. Old women just don’t. Welcome to the facts of life. It’s been that way for oh maybe 100,000 years. You being mad about it just makes you look stupid. And bitter. And stupid.

As for the lagartonas, the older women who are really biddy bodies without any real reason to be nit picking and angry, well there are male equivalents at least here. The locals call one of them (an acquaintance of mine) Gruñon, the Complainer. Hell, those of us who know him call him gruñon.

He’s comically irritating to tell you the truth. And so are the lagartonas. The older gringas that I have run into here? Most of them are crazy, as in mentally ill, as in almost homeless, as in maybe hooked on speed or ice.

It seems that women without a partner kind of go nuttier and nuttier as they age. Sort of like you possibly?

I can empathize. But I would advise you to lay off the male bashing and perhaps find yourself a young Ecuadorian. Or three. Why not go out like Ava Gardner? Beats going out as a lagartona.

Hey, Isabella. The vast majority of the Mexican Cession was populated by hostile Indian tribes, none of whom ever recognized the sovereignty of the Mexican government or of the Spanish government before it. Mexicans are just pissed that we got to steal that land from the Indians instead of them. And Mexico was actually damn glad to unload the Gadsden Purchase land; it had never been anything more than a headache to them–it was infested with hostile Apaches that they couldn’t deal with.

Actually, the Mexican government openly invites American expats. BUT…first, you have to prove that you have a steady income of at least $1500/mo in USD and a few other restrictions. You may not engage in Mexican politics and there are restrictions on property ownership (i.e., can’t directly own beachfront property). The whole idea is that Mexico is, first and foremost, for Mexicans and Gringos are guests who live there at Mexican sufferance.

The US, OTOH, invites the dregs of the Third World and gives them a seat on the gibstrain when they arrive. And we then proceed to bitch about them being here.

The history of the American Southwest is more complex than that of course, with a combination of wars, purchases, settlement and secession/annexation. All of it is par for the course in human history, and neither morally nor politically remarkable.

When it becomes effectively their America

And on the day it’s obvious that the White American expatriate community will not be protected by the ZUS government, then their lives won’t be worth spit.

        The main reason arrogant, wizened old white Americans are protected in Mexico, is because the Mexicans all know Uncle Sam still putatively has their back. But on the day of Fredo’s great demographic Reconquista;

then that all goes out the ventana.

Older women dont want to have to sex??? Boy, where have you been. Obviously not very far. Have you ever heard the – I think nasty term – “coyotes”. ??
Have you read the research from long term happily married couples, and recently married older couples called “silver splicers”?? Both sexes report enjoying sex as much as ever, even more each decade, i.e. it’s better at 70 than it was at 60 and so on. Maybe they dont do it as often, but they report it gets so good – for both – they dont need it.
As for me being stupid because empty headed Yank men chase girls of 18 – believe me, I wouldn’t have such on a silver platter. This includes some young male with very little going on between the ears.
Nothing looks as gross as a lined, wrinkled oldie, with his grey beard, pot belly and weak legs making come on passes to lovely girls of 20 something, who are struggling not to look
        disgusted

As a 65-year-old man, I am in near-complete agreement with everything you’ve written here. The “near” part has to do with nomenclature: I think the term you were looking for is “cougar,” referring to a woman of mature years looking to bed significantly younger men.

One other possible disagreement has to do with sexual appetite toward the last stretch of life. Of course, I can speak only for myself and others I’ve observed. I think there’s a tendency for people’s interest in intercourse to decrease as their age makes the possibility of further reproduction remote and irresponsible. And I think this may just be nature’s way of telling us that that part of our lives is over with. Let me go on to say that the need for (and enjoyment of) love, companionship, intimacy, and touch is still there, as I’m guessing it will be to the very end. And all those good things are best shared with a woman of or near one’s own age, who has walked, more or less, the same path.

But that’s just been my own experience. As they say, “your mileage may vary.”

Men my age (and older!) chasing young women? Grotesque and ridiculous. That requires, I think, an extremely comprehensive lack of self-awareness. I’m totally on board with you here.

Finally, a random question. I’m guessing that Cymru is Welsh for “Wales.” Is it pronounced, as an American might guess, “sim-roo?”

      97. @Reactionary Utopian

I’m guessing that Cymru is Welsh for “Wales.” Is it pronounced, as an American might guess, “sim-roo?”

No, it’s pronounced KIMM-roo (close enough). The “C” in Cymraeg (Welsh language) is pronounced as a hard “C,” almost like “K”.

Your numbers are probably correct or very near correct. Nobody, not even the government knows precisely how many Hispanics or Mexicans or Latinos now reside in America.
Interesting article the other day in Takimag. The Hispanic population of Texas now sits around 40 percent. The white population is sitting around 42. This is going to matter at a national level. Texas, along with Florida and Georgia (which all carry a bunch of electoral college votes) will be ‘tipping blue.’ This will also transform the senate and House of Representatives. The change will be profound to say the least.
I think America has 10-15 years until the long term consequences our reckless immigration bite us in the butt.
        We’ll see.

      100. Isabella, a lot of projection going on there. We are all products of our native cultures, and it is easy to assume all rational people share our views and prejudices. You don’t really have a clue about young Mexican women chasing older American men. I say it that way because in much of Mexico, a North American doesn’t have to chase. He just waits and she finds him when she is ready. Chasing them is a strategic error.

Before I go on, let me make it clear. I was married 44 years this week, and have never so much as flirted with any woman, ever. I get “hit on” at least once a year by much younger women, so I have done a lot of studying of the issues to understand why, with the help of my best friend, a mature woman who is the wife of a local doctor. So, don’t waste your time and energy with the standard insults about my immoral conduct.

In the USA and probably UK, old men aren’t just disrespected. They are HATED. I didn’t fully realize that until I lived in Mexico, where old men are respected and not hated.

Since older men are hated in USA and UK, women are extremely prejudiced against them as mates, of course.

When I was in my 60’s I estimated that maybe 5% of young women would be interested in me, or a man of my age and desirability. Now, in my late 70’s probably less than 1%. Compare that to 0% in the USA and UK at either age bracket.

Instead of an in-depth analysis of the topic, which you are incapable of understanding anyway, I am going to give my analysis of a very sexy 30 year old mother, who has hit on me since she was around 18 with her first child. The last time she hit on me was about a year ago when her husband went with papers as an agriculture worker to Canada. Why?

With the help of my best friend and a male cousin, here is what I have concluded. Yes, there is a money issue, but it is more a desire for financial security than actual cash. Her husband, a builder, gets jobs as they come, which means constant worry about next week’s income. As a mom, financial security is important. Far more important than a man’s age.

Next, she is very intelligent, which most men have no clue. I learned it, and talk to her as an intelligent person. For many women, who aren’t used to this, this is a big plus. I have a college degree, suma cum laude, and that is respected here.

As perverted as it is, the fact I am very faithful is a big turn-on to Mexican women. I have no idea the cheat rate here, but one of my many “grand-daughters” calls me San (my name) because I am one of the few men she knows who is faithful to his wife.

I do not drink, and no one would believe I am capable of DV. Another big plus.

In her case, I suspect another big plus is I am very close to her three little daughters, 5 to 13 years old. I suspect there is not another man in this village she would trust alone with those girls. When she was pregnant with her youngest, her family asked me to drive her to and from school to get her girls to and from class. Something not quite right with her pregnancy. Everyone else was busy all day. One day, there was a meeting between mothers and teachers. The 4 year old was bored, so mom asked me to drive her to her gandma’s house. I walked 4 or 5 blocks with the little girl to my car, opened the door for her to get in the back seat, drove her to grandma’s house, opened the door to let her out and went back for mom to finish her meeting.

In the US, the street would have been filled with patrol cars, when an old man took a little girl and put her in the car, and most of you know that very well. Or, maybe I would have been physically attacked. And, in the first place, Mom would have never let me take the girl home.

An anecdote. The man I call the Rich Old Bastard, because he was, was widowed in his 70’s, when he was 78 he took a 20 year old ranch girl and they had a child. People talked about it, and made light jokes, but few insults. They understood as long as each gets what they are promised, a marriage is a good thing. She wanted a better life, with a faithful non-violent husband, and he wanted a young wife. She got her better life and he got what he wanted.

He moved her a 4 hour trip away, to the state capitol. I understood this right away. She was in a house with his sons who were in their 40’s and 50’s. Later, a friend told me she had gone back to her parents on the ranch. After he died, we learned the reason she went back was her husband built her a house on her father’s land, where her parents could keep an eye on her. Hahaha.

Americans are no longer taught American history, or Civics for that matter.

If they were they’d know that both Mexico and the U.S. were approximately equal belligerents before the war started. Each side had their reasons, and those reasons were good enough for each of them. And if Mexico had won the war, they would have annexed everything they could take, north of their border with us.

But Mexico lost the war and sued for peace, which was concluded by the Treaty of Guadaloupe-Hidalgo.

By that treaty, parts of what is now our southwest were accepted, and by a formal agreement were permanently annexed to America as our territory.

And the American government was magnanimous as always, paying Mexico $10,000,000 in gold plus other incentives, to show ’em we were (usually) pretty good neighbors, in peace and in war.

But… if Mexico had won the war, it is very doubtful they would have given the U.S. a single peso. They would have just taken whatever they could defend from then on, and if the U.S. complained, Mexico would have told the young republic to go pound sand if we didn’t like it. That’s pretty much how it was done back then.

We also left Mexico all of Baja California, which would be a fantastic tourist mecca now, with the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean forming a thousand mile coastline.

That ten million dollars back in the mid 1800’s was a LOT of spondulax! Heck, we’d just bought Alaska, and for a lot less. Mexico didn’t expect or really deserve anything like that, and we certainly didn’t have to pay it.

So we paid well for that land, which was Mexico’s before the war, but they did nothing with it. If Mexico wants it back now, at the very least they should compound that ten mil at 10% interest, maybe more. Because the land is very productive now.

Instead, the Mexican gov’t holds classes for Mexican emigrants, to teach them how to break our laws, and how to game our generous welfare system. And the government helps the Guatamalans, El Salvadoreans, Hondurans, etc. to go straight from Mexico’s southern border right up to, and over ours. Hey, America has plenty of money! Let’s all help ourselves to some a that gringo loot!

Mexico’s agreement with President Trump to send troops to stop the illegal influx was typical of that gubbermint. Apparently, they had their fingers crossed when they signed that agreement, since no Mexican troops have been seen along their southern border and the countries to the south are still sending their rabble; emptying out their prisons and insane asylums, exactly like Fidel Castro did when he made a fool of Jimmuh Carter and his ‘Mariel Boatlift’.

I’m an old fart — Fred’s age. So I was taught American history, which was typed entirely from my failing memory, with no help from Wikipedia, etc.

But the current crop of spun-up schooltards are only taught how evil and racist America supposedly is; they’re taught the current P.C. nonsense, instead of things that matter. As a result, they don’t know jack. Worse, what they think they know is errant nonsense. And if you don’t know your own history, how can you make good decisions?

They’re at the mercy of whoever is pouring that P.C. pablum into their noggins. It’s like programing a computer with gibberish, so it’s no wonder they think war is peace, and slavery is freedom, because that’s what they’ve been taught. Ignorance is strength! Cherish it, kiddies.

Ignorance is also bliss — until there’s a reckoning, and that’s getting close. Then they’ll really get ‘woke’. Too late, though. The trap will be sprung.

In the mean time, party hearty kiddies, while you still know it all! Maybe they’ll be nice to you. Ya think?! Millennials and such can keep telling themselves that they have all the answers, and they know it all. No one is programming them, nosir! They can think for themselves. Right?

Right… until a cop who’s working for the same State that signs his paycheck sticks a gun in their face, and they realize when they bought into the carp about gun control, what guns are really for…

And that 0.5% aren’t planning to ‘fix’ things, it’s more like the Plan is to implement Plato’s swell idea of a city on a hill: 85% proles, and 14.5% military, to keep the proles ‘orderly’.

The job of the proles will be to snap to attention and say, “Yessir, yessir, three bags full!” Then they’ll do what they’re damn well told, because the alternative is just an impotent daydream after they gave up their guns.

And that other half percent? Those folks’ll be like the erstwhile Soviets. They’ll have a Party card. They’ll be special — like the ones that used to be called Aristocrats back in the day. Don’t forget that feudalism was the most successful form of government ever invented. It lasted for more than 600 years.

But you and me, kids? We won’t have a Party card. Their plan for us is to be in that 85%.

They’d best not rock the boat either, if they decide they don’t like the new Plan. Because that 0.5% will be lookin’ for proles to make examples of to the other proles.

And the snowflakes who are always complaining about Trump, and the Electoral College? They think they have it bad now…

        Black Power: A Done Deal

        by Fred Reed

IT IS CURIOUS that blacks, the least educated thirteen percent of the population, the least productive, most criminal, and most dependent on governmental charity, should dominate national politics. Yet they do. Virtually everything revolves around what blacks want, demand, do, or can’t do. Their power seems without limit.

Courses of instruction in the schools, academic rigor, codes of dress, rules regarding unceasing obscenity, all must be set to suit them, as must be examinations for promotion in fire departments, the military, and police forces. Blacks must be admitted to universities for which they are not remotely qualified, where departments of Black Studies must be established to please them. Corporate work forces, federal departments, and elite high-schools must be judged not on whether they perform their functions but on whether they have the right number of blacks.

Do laws requiring identification to vote threaten to end multiple or illegal voting? The laws must go. Do blacks not like Confederate flags? Adieu, flags. Does Huckleberry Finn go down the Mississippi with Jim, or did Conrad write The Jim of the Narcissus? These must be banned or expurgated to please blacks who haven’t read them or, usually, heard of them.

We must never, ever say or do anything that might upset them – as virtually everything does. It is positively astonishing. One expects the rich and smart to have disproportionate power. But America is dominated from the slums. One might think that a single set of laws should and would apply to all citizens, and that things should be done without regard to race, creed, color, sex, or national origin, and that all should have the same rights and responsibilities. It is, sadly, not so.

If a white shoots a black to defend himself, it becomes national news for weeks, or months, and riots follow. But when blacks engage in their unending racial attacks on whites, the media demurely look the other way. The attackers are never black. They are “teens.” Reporters who say otherwise are likely to be fired. In effect, the thirteen percent censor the national press.

Much of their mastery has become so deeply ingrained as no longer to be noticed;…defensive behavior by whites has become nearly universal. Politicians have to avoid mentioning watermelons, or that neighborhoods of high crime must delicately be called “sketchy” instead of “black,” though all understand who lives there and what is meant. The avoidance of racial reference is not an even-handed if despotic attempt to oppose racism since, as we all know, blacks freely apply any derogatory wording they choose to whites. In short, they rule. Which is amazing.

That was four long lonely years ago. Since then the AI program known as “Fred Reed” has fed us a steady diet of white grotesques as viewed through a Tijuana funhouse mirror, noble mestizos and implacable Aztec aristocrats, and of late, a Kent Brockman-like welcoming of our new Chinese overlords…..presumably AI Fred will be helpful in rounding up slaves to toil in their underground mines….and, of course, two heaping scoops of Puto Trump en sus cornflakes every morning.

Is he trying to disappear his older columns under a flurry of refried wokeness? Maintaining a tentative toe-hold on the Amazon back-catalog lists? Trading one type of cartel editor for another sort entirely, and adjusting his copy accordingly?

Whatever – I sorta wish they’d let the old Fred out of captivity now and then. Which by now may be an idle daydream, like reading about sightings of 20th-century America in what’s left of the MSM.

Whether the State Dept. would really be of any help or not, were a Fred Reed or yourself, or a whole group of Americans, to get unjustly jailed or what-have-you in Mexico, for example, I think the Mexican gov. would still be worried about that (or Thailand or wherever).

To add to what Rurik wrote, I maintain that the ex-pats ought to really diversify their money. When the economic STHF, the US $ won’t mean much in these places any more. I went over some of that in “Down to the banana republics …. went Fred Reed”.

Dumbest thing an American expat can do is keep anything more than walking-around money in an on-shore US account.

I used to have a couple US credit cards, but the banks sent me notice that the PATRIOT Act made it no longer tenable to have me as a client because I had a foreign address. I don’t know if there was any validity to the claim, but I don’t miss them. For a while there FATCA made Americans virtually unbankable; it’s still difficult to trade in some securities because the SEC and CFTC have reached out to punish financial firms that provide certain products to US citizens even when resident abroad.

But the target I think of nowadays is wondering if the next cab ride I take with a recent migrant arrival might be my last. Oddly enough, I’ve struck up an arrangement with an Iranian driver I’ve known for a while who I’m reasonably sure won’t kill me in the forest instead of taking me to the airport rather than taking my chances with strangers.

      106. Rurik says:
        @The Alarmist

he has put a huge target on the backs of all US expats.

I suppose that depends on which country you’re living in now.

If it’s Mexico, then it’s likely that if Mexicans are giving you hard looks, it’s because they figure you look like the type of guy that voted for Trump, and if so, they’re like the rest of the army of butt-hurts that figure racist, white American men are all guilty of racism and colonialism and genocide and slavery and sexism, and blah, blah.. That last one is particularly amusing coming from Mexicans.

        So there’s that.

But on the day that AOC and her ilk are running the show in DC, (at least putatively, as we all know ((who)) really runs the show), then as Achmed just mentioned, if a white American man is somehow wronged in Mexico, what are the chances Kamala Harris’ State Debt is going to give a rat’s ass?

When our government is like the South African government, and considers all White men as guilty racists who owe for “our crimes”, why would they bother Mexico if gangs start to get their pound of flesh – for hundreds of years of Gringo theft, rape, genocide, serial predatory corporate rapine, Uncle Sam’s military humiliations and outrages and torture, all across Latin America, which (((The Narrative))) has all straight type, conservative-looking white guys now as the main perpetrators of.

Already our gov. and ((media)) couldn’t give a rip if a white guy or even gal is cut to pieces by orcs and fed to alligators, right here in the good ol ZUS of A!

So I don’t think they’re going to care too much down there, either.

The only thing that will protect the ex-patriots is the notion that they bring in lots of cash, but that’s a very tenuous thing to hang your hat on, once we pass the demographic Rubicon. And there’s no turning back.

It predicted an invasion of impoverished foreigners from south of the border invading the advanced nations of the world in order to avail themselves of all the goodies produced by the wealthy and productive nations of the world. At the time I first read it I never imagined that such an event could ever take place. Yet now it’s taking place right before our eyes, as hordes of Mexican and South Americans are storming north to avail themselves of all the wealth accumulated by the productive nations of the world. If this isn’t stopped, and right now, we’ll soon not have a nation to defend.

Mexico controlled, or more accurately claimed, what is now the SW United States for a grand total of 27 years. Total Mexican population of the area in 1948 was something under 100k.

Why this brief and partial control of an area grants eternal title is beyond me.

Especially since you can only accept the Mexican title if you reject the idea the actual natives had any title at all.

Correct. The American military had not exactly covered itself with glory in the Revolution or War of 1812. There was no particular reason to think the US was a mighty warrior nation.

Now, there is a question whether these kind of storms so far south are a result of abrupt climate change. I cannot do any individual attribution for such a small scale event. However, I can state that the larger-scale conditions are becoming more frequent and intense because of abrupt climate change. These include a) the increasingly wavy polar jet stream leading to more highly amplified upper-atmospheric waves and cutoff systems which persist over the same areas for days to weeks, b) increasing atmospheric moisture because of warming oceans (higher evaporation rates) and warming air (higher saturation vapor pressures…where the air can hold a higher mass of water vapor), and c) more intense surface convection, land temperatures warm rapidly and allow for any storm development to be potentially more intense, assuming the upper atmosphere provides conditions favorable for instability. So one would expect to see more intense extremes of this nature farther south given these intensifying climate disruption conditions.

      129. American women often think they are entitled to live in Mexico as they think it should be, not as it is.

        Not only in Mexico.

Having lived there as well as in Japan, Chile, and Argentina, I can personally attest to the arrogance demonstrated by some American immigrants to their hosts. In the last two named countries this was less of a problem, at least back in my 20s when the sight of them was still comparatively rare.

There was an incident from 1998 that comes to my recall, which had occurred in Viña del mar in front of a café that my girlfriend at the time and I were sitting at. A young American, probably in his mid 20s, was pulled over for speeding by a carabinero on a motorcycle. As the citation was being written, the American pulled out what appeared to be some U. S. paper currency, waving it front of the officer. In somewhat broken Spanish, the driver condescendingly addressed the officer as “amigo”, and perhaps believing that all Latin America operated like Mexico, indiscreetly implied to his newfound chum that a wad of dollars would be his if only he would care to look the other way. Instead, the carabinero reached into the driver’s side window, brusquely yanked the suspect out, and proceeded to vigorously beat him with his truncheon. Chile is one of those rare Latin American nations where the police are generally free of corruption and widely respected. (Or at least the latter used to be so. The American trend of screeching about police brutality against “minorities” has taken a firm hold there as of late.) Bribing an officer there, unlike in Mexico, is regarded as a serious offense. And in that immediate post-Pinochet era, the carabineros still enjoyed considerable license to issue corporal punishment.

In Japan, American men as well as women tend to be obnoxious busybodies, often complaining about well nigh every damned thing about the country that graciously received them, and behaving as if they were each resplendent agents of civilization tasked with the solemn duty of enlightening the benighted natives. For that reason and countless others, I largely stayed away from other Americans while living in Nihon, preferring instead the company of Japanese.

During my two years in Mexico I made it a point to stay away from American enclaves, mostly because I saw no point in living abroad only to be ensconced among the familiar. There were, however, a few Americans I made friends with over there; good people, mostly there for the womenfolk, who are often far easier to approach and live with than your typical W. A. S. P. female. White women can certainly be attractive, but their seemingly deeply ingrained puritanical hatred of pleasure—which reveals itself in its purest form in the sempiternally hysterical, DayGlo-haired fourth-wave “feminists”, sporting Skrillex haircuts, Warby Parker glasses, and ululating against the chimerical specters of “toxic masculinity”, “privilege”, and any heterosexual man that dares to enjoy sex on his own terms—makes me wonder why anybody bothers with them at all.

      130. @Logan

The Mexican-American War was admittedly an unjust war. By your logic, Japan was in its rights to attempt an invasion and annexation of Hawaii. After all, it was not even a state, had only been incorporated into the American Empire relatively recently, and in 1941 counted Japanese as the single largest ethnic demographic, far outnumbering whites.

Grant’s famous quote that never had there been a more “wicked war” is well known, but Göring’s quip about American imperial hypocrisy from nearly a century later ought to be widely disseminated:

After the United States gobbled up California and half of Mexico, and [Germany was] stripped down to nothing, territorial expansion suddenly becomes a crime.

That said, I agree that the caterwauling about former Mexican territories ought to cease. It does nobody any favors. I just wish that the U. S. would also stop whining about the supposed crimes of other nations, as if it alone were the only spotless white dove among them.

        We can agree on that.

As I’m sure you know, Mexico’s history is pretty appalling too. Though mostly internal repression rather than external aggression. This is largely, of course, probably due to Mexico’s inability to project power than its moral superiority.

Like you, I’ve always thought the moral claim that Japanese aggression in WWII was beyond the pale doesn’t hold up all that well. They were invading European colonies that had been acquired by the Euros in the previous century. So why were the Euros moral in their invasion and the Japs immoral when they tried to imitate them? Which is not to say that the Jap methods were not utterly immoral.

One of the most famous scenes in movie history is from Casablanca. The Nazis officers are singing a German song and the others retaliate by drowning them out with the Marseillaise and shouting “Vive la France!”

It apparently never occurred to the moviemakers to ask what the heck the French were doing in Casablanca. They had, after all, only gained control between 1906 and 1912, depending on how you figure it. That’s less then 35 years.

So for the French to invade and conquer and rule Morocco is fine, dandy and moral, but for the Germans to do the same is immoral and illegal aggression.

Santa Fe de Nuevo México (English: Santa Fe [Holy Faith] of New Mexico; shortened as Nuevo México or Nuevo Méjico, and translated as New Mexico in English) was a province of the Viceroyalty of New Spain, and later a territory of independent Mexico. The first capital was San Juan de los Caballeros from 1598 until 1610, and from 1610 onward the capital was La Villa Real de la Santa Fe de San Francisco de Asís. The naming, capital, the Palace of the Governors, and rule of law were retained as the New Mexico Territory, and the subsequent U.S. State of New Mexico, became a part of the United States. The New Mexican citizenry, primarily consisting of Hispano, Pueblo, Navajo, Apache, and Comanche peoples, became citizens of the United States as a result of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.

Nuevo México is often incorrectly believed to have taken its name from the nation of Mexico. However, it was named by Spanish explorers who believed the area contained wealthy Amerindian cultures similar to those of the Aztec Empire (centered in the Valley of Mexico), and called the land the “Santa Fe de Nuevo México”

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancestral_Puebloans

Archaeologists continue to debate when this distinct culture emerged. The current agreement, based on terminology defined by the Pecos Classification, suggests their emergence around the 12th century BC

Have you ever actually read anything by the Frankfurt School philosophers, much less understood what they said? I am by no means a “Marxist”—far from it—but anybody who can comprehend their ideas will readily see that what today’s pop corporate “left” stands for is either the polar opposite of what they stood for, or often would simply have been grotesquely undesirable or unimaginable to them.

Take Adorno, for instance. Not only did he live long enough to see (and be horrified) by this “new left”, but his writings often contradict its ideals. His essays on music and art, for example, stand far to the right of what your average dullard would feel comfortable with; indeed, they are often attacked from the “left” as well as the “right” for their perceived “elitism”. If anything, thinkers on the right who close their minds off to Adorno, Benjamin, Marcuse, Horkheimer, et al do so to their own detriment.

Instead of accepting what corporate-sponsored “conservative” talking heads say about the Frankfurt School as the gospel truth, why not read their works for yourself and then make your own decision?

To answer your question, not quite, with the pronunciation. Interestingly, its very much as it would be pronounced in Russian, but with a hard “C”. as in Kym-roo.

It doesn’t actually mean Welsh, rather the opposite. Welsh comes from an old English word which meant “place where the foreigners are”. The Angles and Saxons offered the Cymru – who had most of the British Isles excepting the far north, now Scotland, as their land. But they were invaded by wild Picts. the Anglo Saxons offered to help, which was accepted. Then they promptly backstabbed, attacked lightly defended places on the East Coast while most of the fighting men were defending the North, and then, as is their habit, labelled the places as theirs, as “Angle-land”, which name persists to this day, just a small alteration in spelling.
The hard pressed Cymru were eventually forced to retreat to the mountains and mists of North Cymru as it is now. However, the invaders had the damned cheek to name it “place of the foreigner”, or “where the foreigner is”. It is curious that they saw us foreigners, and many still do.
Cymru means the opposite, “Place where my people are”. Nowadays we say “Land of my Fathers”.
        Thanks for your interest.

I think we all have reached saturation point on criticism of American.

For someone like me, who gets up every day and works and pays over 35% of their income in taxes, and then has to pay more-

To then see the people that elect execute a globalist agenda is that in no way benefit the working class-

It reaches a point of jaded hopelessness.

It’s important to remember that the American reflected in the media or even social media is in no way an accurate portrayal of the lives we live. I have clients that genuinely do have to choose between paying their electric bill or buying their blood pressure medicine.

Perhaps many of the people on here independently wealthy, or ex-pats living an exotic life. God bless them.

But in the rural areas, there is a real crisis in terms of being able to make enough money to live. So the criticisms should be directed at the elite and not the masses of Americans who are just trying to live.

This might be a great example. I met a young lady that just had a minor criminal problem and I helped her get out of it. As a lawyer I do sometimes try to help people figure out what the next step should be.

She told me she wanted to be a dental hygienist. To me this is a very achievable goal. However, she explained to me that the local community college had over 2000 applicants for the dental hygiene program and they only except 35 slots. 15 of those lots are specifically earmarked for minorities.

When picking on people’s teeth becomes a coveted indeed almost unattainable goal for a young person coming from a blue collar heritage, the jig is up.

So she stuck working at a tanning salon and living at home. Many of the young man she tries to date or addicted to drugs or just act like fools. To go to college, for your traditional university she would have to go deeply in debt.

Yet, Britain has ca. 100-120 universities & it is not that difficult to get a degree (the same with other highly valued education systems, like those in Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Australia…). I think most people here would have no problem with that (including criticism of the behavior of Americans) — depending on your critique, they may even agree with you.

What people object to is the ‘reconquista’ stuff:

IN fact, maybe they are bent on returning their land to their nation, as it was a mere 170 odd years ago, and had been for untold millenia !!!

They don’t want to hear it, and I don’t either — surely you can see and understand the difference.

And “IN fact”, what you want to pretend Mexicans are reclaiming isn’t the vast, largely empty vistas of the American southwest (for rhetorical purposes here I will included CA and TX), but instead is now a highly developed and prosperous area, eg CA, which if it were a country would have the 5th largest economy in the world (> 2x the size of Mexico’s) — also TX has an economy larger than Mexico.

None of that belongs to Mexicans — all of it was created by the ‘gringos’, and it belongs to us (just like the land itself I should add).

        and everyone is in debt

Understand this is a rather recent development — when I went to school in the late 70s and early 80s, a good education at a public university was affordable for the average middle class family — even at elite, relatively selective institutions like the Univ of Calif: I and several siblings went thru UC at that time, entirely financed by my single income parents and our own part-time earnings — my working father was an engineer who never earned more than $50k/year — one of my siblings even went to a UC professional school (another 4 years), also paid for (‘out of pocket’) by my parents — none of us had any debt.

But the cost of a higher education vs average family income has soared since then, to the point it is far less affordable today.

Student debt is a big problem and something must be done — it is an offense against common morality for young people to start life in debt.

A concise yet complete answer would be difficult to find, I think — off the top of my head I do not know.

Forbes, 2010 — Why Does College Cost So Much?

Here are three salient facts about tuition and fees. Over the last 30 years, the average sticker price at public and private American universities has accelerated upward. Since 1981 the list price level of tuition and fees has risen sixfold while the consumer price index has only increased two-and-a-half times.

Further down the authors offer several reasons — FWIW (and actually “sixfold” seems low to me).

Many things have changed for the worse in America since I was young — the cost of a higher education is just one of those.

Eloquently put, Herr Professor. Care to put your MENSA-approved brain to work and explain how so to this humble mental defective?

he considered jazz to be primative (sic) jungle music.

I disagree with his ideas about jazz—he failed to understand its potential for transcendent, radical musical expression that paralleled some of the finest works of Schoenberg and Webern. Think of late Coltrane, Albert Ayler, or Cecil Taylor (himself much influenced by Webern), for example. But if one accepts these ideas in the manner in which they were intended, namely as a critique of what he referred to as the “culture industry”, or what we now refer to as “pop culture” (i.e. mass-produced entertainment meant to keep the masses in the thrall of power), then he was not wrong.

If jazz has mainly got boring, the opposite is happening with the climate. Global warming is causing storms to increase both in both (a) frequency and (b) intensity, as this research shows:

Recent research has yielded insights into the connections between global warming and the factors that cause tornadoes and severe thunderstorms (such as atmospheric instability and increases in wind speed with altitude,). Although these relationships are still being explored, a recent study suggests a projected increase in the frequency of conditions favorable for severe thunderstorms.

New research has found that extreme climate change risks an extinction effect that could annihilate all life on earth.

Now the Fall is just your personal taste Che. Sometimes I re-listen music I loved in my youth and much of it doesn’t seem as convincing or quality musicianship to me any more. From all that pop rock of the past Pink Floyd still sound good to me and probably the closest to classical in quality in that popular genre. At least they seemed to have put a lot of thought and effort into their creations and used advanced musical and recording technologies for their time.

(musical minutia > 6 feet of hail falling on Mexico) = dissociation

In mild cases, dissociation can be regarded as a coping mechanism or defense mechanisms in seeking to master, minimize or tolerate stress – including boredom or conflict.[6][7][8] At the nonpathological end of the continuum, dissociation describes common events such as daydreaming. Further along the continuum are non-pathological altered states of consciousness.[5][9][10]

      226. Well Fred,

The world, or at least the part of it I have occupied, is full of meddlesome old biddies whose only purpose seems to be to make everyone as miserable as they are.

Back here in the States gated communities and subdivisions with homeowner associations are full of them. And crotchety old men too which is why I (so far) don’t live in them.

        I feel for ya bro….

Obviously, Mr Mallory has not looked around lately or ventured out of his castle. The US is and has been 3rd world for years. Rednecks living in flimsy trailers dining on hotdogs & fries without $500 in the bank to cover emergencies and in debt to PayDay loansharks is hardly Ist world. Sixty percent of you’all in poverty, 43 million (~11%) cannot feed their kids each day, medieval diseases returning, the homeless bemerding the sidewalks in wealthy cities, world’s largest prison population, 50,000 deaths a yr from prescription drugs (!), and an “elected” govt of corrupt scoundrels and thieves. You remind me of Honduras in better days.

Meanwhile, for those of us who live in the real world, here’s what the global warming scam is all about:

        http://www.investors.com/po…

“At a news conference last week in Brussels, Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, admitted that the goal of environmental activists is not to save the world from ecological calamity but to destroy capitalism.

“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution,” she said.

Referring to a new international treaty environmentalists hope will be adopted at the Paris climate change conference later this year, she added: “This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history.”

        and

        http://www.cfact.org/2017/0…

“Ottmar Edenhofer, lead author of the IPCC’s fourth summary report released in 2007 candidly expressed the priority. Speaking in 2010, he advised, “One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy. Instead, climate change policy is about how we redistribute de facto the world’s wealth.””

Meanwhile, for those of us who live in the real world? Then discuss it. In the real world, the polar ice is, as the Trump Administration gleefully announces (read comment #231), is rapidly disappearing. This is the real world, measured in real numbers:

Now tell me, Mr. Real World, what is it that melts ice on a global scale? Global what? Simple second grade science question answered with one word. Take a shot at it.

And for bonus points, who funds CFACT?

The Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow was highlighted in a paper by Yale University’s Dr. Justin Farrell. Farrell’s paper, “Corporate funding and ideological polarization about climate change,” was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in 2015. It includes a list of 164 organizations who are part of the “climate counter-movement,” as well as which of these groups have received funding from ExxonMobil or the Koch brothers (CFACT has received funding from both). The real scammers are those who posit that humans can evaporate earth’s vast coal beds and oil fields into the atmosphere with zero consequences, while profiting from doing so.

In the Better Late Than Never Category:

        @isabella aka la largatona:

The question is not where I’ve been, it’s in what country are you seeing a lot of old single women lusting after old men? Now it is true that I’ve known of a few older women that like young guys, and it is probably true in some cases that a couple that ages together will have better sex (maybe), but I will re-assert it is much rarer if the old woman is single. As I said before, there are a fair number of single old women who are batshit crazy (aka largatonas), enough so that Fred wrote an article about them.

The cougars you mention are just that: old women who lust after young men. Of course you are down for that, but then decide that “no one” wants to see an old man with a younger woman. Define no one.

The fact is that cougars go for young skin and so do old men.

If you’ve been married to some guy for 40 years you are more likely to NOT have had sex with him but maybe once a year for the past 20. Guess you weren’t around for all of those Dr. Ruth radio shows of her sex advice in the 80s. I was. Every show had these poor guys calling in saying their wives hadn’t had sex with them in years, decades even. And I’ve heard that from old guy friends, too.

The truth is that some younger women like older and wrinkled. But anyone who says no one does? Male-bashing doesn’t become you, isabella la largatona. Quítalo.

Your tastes do not make you a bore.

I like many types of music, and am very old-school about what I sing, or roar.

My faves are sentimental Japanese pop, some Japanese new-wave and neo -rockabilly. and Bodies, Holhday in the Sun, or, if I am fortunate enough to be in a place where it is on the list of selections, Belsen was a Gas.

        I usually choose Bodies.

There is a double-irony in it. Lydon married the mother of his near-contemporary Arianna, (now dead).

She is much older. No children. So when young John was roaring about Mummy .in Bodies, it is difficult to see it as anything other than his own mummy complex.
